Children’s Dentistry

We love children and providing gentle and caring treatment for these little patients brings a smile to our faces. Whether you are new parents, recently moved to the area or simply looking for a new dentist, we warmly welcome your family to our family dentistry office. Getting into good dental habits at a young age is vitally important to your child’s oral health. Their are great benefits to getting on top of any bad habits or small issues that can prevent much larger issues down the road. Contact us today to learn more about how we can provide exceptional dentistry for you and your precious children.

We can’t wait to meet you.

When should my child visit the dentist?

According to the National Children’s Oral Health Foundation, more than 40 percent of children have cavities by the time they reach kindergarten. In order to prevent tooth decay, we recommend your child visit us around six months after their first tooth erupts or after his or her first birthday. This is also a great way for your child to get comfortable with the Dentist. By starting off the right way, we can help prevent tooth decay and ensure that their teeth are healthy as they grow. We recommend that on top of visiting the dentist every six months you try to limit how many sugary snacks and drinks your child has. This is the best way to prevent tooth decay as sugar can start to destroy their enamel and lead to cavities.

What is tooth decay?

Tooth decay is when the outer layer of your teeth (the enamel) wares down due to sugary drinks and candy. Starchy and high carb foods also create deposits that are left on teeth and combined with bacteria that resides in the mouth can create tooth decaying acids.

How to prevent tooth decay

If your child uses a sippy cup for long periods of time, give them water and don’t allow them to take it to bed. As they begin to eat solid foods, limit sugary snack like cookies, candy, cakes and gum. These can get stuck in their teeth and if left for long periods of time can start to ware away at their enamel.

How to protect your child’s teeth

Keep their gums clean

After each meal or snack, gently wipe their gums with a damp cloth to keep their guns and teeth looking and feeling healthy.

Limit pacifiers

While pacifiers are normal for infants after they are one month old and have good breastfeeding habits, experts recommend that children stop using them after they turn two. This is to prevent teeth misalignment and cross-bite.

Tap water matters

Tap and fountain water is better for their teeth than bottled water. If you choose bottled water, only give them fluoridated water. This will make their teeth more resistant to decay

Start brushing their teeth right away

As their teeth start to come in, brushing is very important. Start with a small, soft toothbrush using only water. Consult your dentist before using toothpaste. This creates a healthy pattern as they become older.

Growing in confidence

In order for your child to build confidence with their brushing, encourage them to do it themselves as they get old enough to do so. Be sure to keep an eye on them to make sure that they are brushing properly.

Bruxism: Teeth Grinding While You Sleep

You’ve probably heard about people grinding, gnashing or clenching their teeth while they sleep. This is known as bruxism. If you live a very stressful lifestyle you are at higher risk of developing bruxism. While there are some mild cases where treatment is not needed, if the case is severe enough it can lead to jaw disorders, headaches and damaged teeth. It is important to seek regular dental care as signs and symptoms are not always noticed until complication arise.

Causes of Bruxism

Stress

How to treat Bruxism

We can help you stop grinding your teeth while you sleep by giving you a mouthguard, helping with bite adjustments, bio feedback devices and repairing damaged teeth.

How to minimize teeth grinding

  • Before bed, try to have a more relaxing routine that is distraction-free and peaceful
  • Don’t sleep on your back, try sleeping on your side or stomach as much as you are able

Tech Savvy Team

A Few Patient Testimonies:

“I cannot express how happy I am with this dental practice. They are super empathetic to my high anxiety and hairtrigger gag reflex. Knowing how nervous I am, they gently walked me through the procedure, checking on how I'm doing every step of the way. Not only are they extremely professional and outstanding in their customer service skills, they produce amazing quality work. During college I had to go to a different dentist who even complimented the work that had been previously done by Ancaster Dental Care. They admit you when your appt time is with no extra waiting time. They also have a great wait list system for when you're making an appt. I highly, highly recommend this practice.”

—R.P.

“My partner and I had our intake appointments today. I was very comfortable throughout my appointment, each staff member was happy and helpful. I found myself saying “this was the most positive dental experience I’ve ever had.” It was refreshing to be told what you’re doing right with your teeth, rather than all the ways you’re doing it wrong. Happy to have found a new dentist.”

—T.K..

“I’m very happy with the service I receive here. Everyone is very kind and attentive. The hygienist who you spend the most time with is great and very mindful of any discomforts you might feel and frequently asks if you're doing okay or need a break (I have a locking jaw, which she knows without having to ask me because it’s in my file. Amazing!!—I’m not being sarcastic, I genuinely appreciate it). The dentist is kind and took the time to explain things I needed clarification on. The receptionist is very lovely too. I feel a receptionist really sets the tone for your visit at both the start and the end for any office/clinic, so when you have a kind and attentive individual when you first walk in, it's just a sign of good things to come. Everyone there makes me feel comfortable and that's why this dental clinic is my #1 and I won't be going anywhere else.”
