Benefits of Laser Dentistry
There are many different types and uses of lasers in dentistry. Lasers can be used in dentistry to cure restorative materials and enhance tooth bleaching, to assist in surgical procedures, and some to remove tooth structure for restoration or to get rid of disease in a tooth.
Along with the many types, there are also many benefits to using a laser for dental procedures. Some types of lasers can sterilize an affected area and seal off blood vessels which can reduce symptoms and healing time after a procedure. Other lasers can take the place of a drill allowing the patient to have a more relaxed dental experience. Procedures can also be done more precisely by using a laser.
Is it safe?
Yes. Lasers can be used as a safe and effective treatment for a wide range of dental procedures. The primary safety measure necessary during laser treatment is the use of proper protective eyewear by both the patient and the dentist. A dental laser is at least as safe as other dental instruments when used by a trained operator. (AGD Impact October 200, page 30)
